COLLEGE CONNECTION ADMISSIONS DAY
 

College Planning from Former College Admission Officers
Work with former college admission officers from schools such as Boston College, Harvard, Providence and UCONN. Road To College™ can help you get a strategic edge in the college admission process.

Our full day program will help prepare you for all phases of the process, whether you are a rising junior or senior. The full day program starts at 1:00 PM and ends at 6:00 PM. We'll answer all of your questions, help you fine tune your admission strategy and give you the tools to succeed in this ever changing process.

Who should attend this program?
Rising juniors and seniors (and their parents) who are interested in refining their admissions credentials as they prepare for the college admissions and recruiting process.

Are parents welcomed to participate?
YES, parents are encouraged to participate in the program. Several of the workshops have a special parent emphasis, and parents will learn as much about admissions and recruiting as the students. There will be some free time for parents, but there are several workshops designed to educate parents regarding the role of admissions and field hockey.

The enrollment for this program is very limited. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. Please contact with us with any questions. More details will follow with your confirmation.

Introduction To College Planning (Parents and all Students)
Time Length: 30-45 minutes

Description:
Students and parents will engage in an open discussion and lecture on key elements to developing a strong academic program for students based on the past two years of academic development. In this session, we will focus on curriculum planning, junior and senior academic schedules. We also will delve into the merits of AP/IB exams, how to improve performance and course selection, choosing honors vs. standard level classes and how the potential academic major in college can impact the strength of an admissions case and how to leverage field hockey in your admission case.

Introduction to the SAT and ACT: Test Strategies for Juniors Improving Your SAT-I Score with an Emphasis on the Writing for Seniors
Time Length: 75-minutes
Description:
Our test prep coaches will walk you through the steps to be ready for the NEW SAT-I and understand the differences between the SAT and ACT. This workshop is customized by your year in high school.

Financial Aid Seminar: How to Pay for College without Going Broke (Parents)
Time Length: 90 minutes

Parents Program
Description:
Road To College™ will provide a seminar on how to pay for college without going broke. The goal of the seminar will be to educate families on the financial aid process, how to get the most financial aid possible, asset allocation strategies and other important tips on navigating the waters of the financial aid process. This program is especially designed for the parents.

Essay Planning for Seniors
Time Length: 1 hour

Description:
Road To College will conduct an interactive session with students reading and critique past college essays, and they will then engage in a brainstorming session on a list of topics which might be used for personal topics for a student's college essays.

Interview Training (Seniors)
Time Length: 1 hour

Description:
Students will learn important interviewing skills in tips to help students improve their presentation and communication skills. Students will develop their "elevator pitch"; learn how to interact and impress college coaches, and to prepare for the college admissions interview. Parents are not allowed to attend this session as it is important for students to learn to develop their own voice without the pressure or influence of parents in the classroom.

Academic Planning, Time Management and Study Skills (Juniors)
Time Length: 1 hour

Description:
Road To College™ will conduct an interactive session with rising juniors on how to develop strong communication skills that will assist in the classroom, in the recruiting stages and in admission process. This workshop will also teach students how to improve and fine tune note taking, study skills and time management skills to give rising juniors have a better grasp on managing the demands of the all-important junior year. We'll help students to develop a personal plan and set goals as they prepare for the beginning of junior year. Students will come away with a plan of action for junior year after this session.

Developing Communication and Public Speaking Skills (Juniors)
Time Length: 1 hour

Description:
Road To College™ will conduct an interactive session with rising juniors on how to develop strong communication skills that will assist in the classroom, in the recruiting stages and in admission process. We'll work with students on the concepts of body language, building rapport, learning to manage teachers, teammates and coaches through communication.

Closing Admission Workshop: Covering The Bases (Parents and Students)
Time Length: 1 hour

Description:
Road To College™ will conduct an interactive session focusing on other important topics in the college planning process. Building rapport with coaches, "selling" yourself during the recruiting process, following-up with coaches after College Connection, the Academic Index for Ivy Leagues from a field hockey perspective. In addition will talk about managing stress during the application process, finding the right "fit" and the appropriate number of schools to considering applying to in college. The role of the parents will also be discussed in this session. Ample time will be left for additional questions and answers.
